Canadian Permanent Residents visiting the US

Ok, one of the topics the group discussed while we were waiting for the dumplings was the subject of taking trips down south.  ;D  For some of the people, the trip would be made soon.  I was tasked to check with one of my co-workers who is co-incidentally from China.  Although he's a Canadian citizen now, he does make frequent trips to the US to visit friends and relatives.

After speaking to him, I've found out that a Canadian PR does need a visa (Form DS-160) to enter the US unless the country you're from is a VISA waiver country (China is not).  You will also most likely need to go for an interview as well as applying for the VISA...

From what I can see, there's still a lot of digging around you'll need to do.  I kept finding snippets of information here and there that would lead me to more questions.  :o  Anyway, here's the main page from the US embassy for Canadians... http://www.consular.canada.usembassy.gov/canada.asp

Not the news that some of you wanted to hear, but at least it gives you a start.  I'll update this as time permits (there are quite a few of us who will most likely need this info in the future)

Thanks In-Jaul. Any idea as to the waiting time & fee ??

Neil:
My friend Yang is in Canada on a working visa.  It expires in February.  She recently applied for and received a tourist visa to the USA.  It's good for one year.  It didn't seem to be all that difficult for her, but maybe she's special some how.

As one of my friends is so fond of saying (paraphrasing here)...

"Join the dark side Mike... we have a better health plan..."  :o

(And the chinese food isn't half bad either.  8) )
