Science fair help
« on: November 17, 2013, 11:17:03 am »
I am thinking of doing an experiment to help Katie in a science fair project. That is to calculate the distance to the moon.

By observing the moon here in Colorado and also in China AT THE SAME TIME. it is possible with trig to calculate the distance from the earth to the moon.

I need someone in China to assist. Anywhere in China will work but Someone near 39 degrees north (Beijing) will be more accurate.

Find a time and place that is good for observing the moon. dark enough to see other stars in the sky.  let me know when and I will check to see if that is a good time here as well.  We must be able to see at least one star in order to measure the difference in the angle from the moon to the star. Once we have decided on a time we can meet online and both take a photo of the moon and the star at precisely the same time.  Send me the photo and I will do the rest.

Anyone close to 39.9139° N, that is willing to assist?
Don’t give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
