China Residents Visa

Went to the PSB this morning and applied to renew my visa under the new regulations. Met a very nice English speaking officer who after a chat stated that she would forward the application with a request that they give me a residents permit under the new regulations that came into force in September.
She said that if it is granted, and she cannot see why not, then getting my green card will be a formality after 5 years of marriage. This means no more visa applications.
So not long to long so maybe I will go the whole hog and join 'the party', grow a wispy long beard, spit in restuarants and trump without fear or favour.

Sometime 2014, I need to do the China visa...1st time under 'category Q'.
All my 'priors' (3) were under the 'L'.
The question I have, as I recall, when I write on the visa app. the city where my
wife Jing resides, does this preclude me from living elsewhere?
If Jing changes her residency before my departure, I think no problem, but
I am thinking that once upon my arrival we can relocate to another city.
There are a few members that have ventured this road. Just curious on their
take of events, if they would have done something else.
Just thinking about it now.

How did the Green Card gets its name? As I suspect it has nothing to do with the country being 'green'.

I never clicked any of the boxes. about which visa to apply for. I handed to the officer and she told me that she was putting me down for a full residents permit as a prelude for going for the 'green card'. When I get my visa back in three weeks I will let you know what it says. I could be getting a 'Q1' visa or even a ' D' as I intend to live here permanently.
I do know from experience that if you are going to be in China for long periods then it does matter where your wife's ID Card was issued.
In 2010 I went to renew my visa the day before it was due to expire and I was refused. This was because we was living in Guangdong and my wife's ID showed Hunan Province.
She left the next morning to go to Hunan and I toddled off to Macau as I had to leave China before it expired. I was back 24 hours later with a 14 day visa and she arrived back three days later with the paperwork that she needed to change her address. That took another 7 days to process in Zhongshan and we took her new ID card to the PSB and re applied and have not had a problem on any application since. Maybe it was all because of the inexperience of the officer I dealt with. No bars on his shoulders just two pips so he was still wet behind the ears and wanting to make a name for himself. (I certainly had a few for him!) ;)
