Is anyone active online here?
« on: August 06, 2017, 08:12:12 am »
I joined a few weeks ago, and there seems to be no one here. Is anyone still active here online?

Yes, but they usually just look to see if anyone has posted a topic or question and don't even bother signing into the site. If you have a specific question you want information about just post and someone will come along and hopefully answer it for you. I see that Willy had posted a response to your last post and invited you to pm if you needed further assistance. I can say without a doubt that Willy the Londoner is one of our most senior members and has lived in China for the last 9 years and knows the ins and outs of Chinese culture. Phillip is another member who was living in China and can also assist you. You might want to make certain your email address is correct also because that is where all of your message notifications from this site will be delivered. I was married in China back in 2009 and am still happily married so I might be of some assistance if needed.

Regards,
Robertt

I still check in here 2 or 3 times a week, still happily married since 2010. Busy with citizenship for wife and daughter and moving daughter to college next week. I dont know if I could help but would certainly try too if needed.

Gus, Dont let Robertt fool you. He has ALL the answers. He is just being modest.

The site has dwindled down to almost nothing new for months on end. But it is still the best place to get your questions answered. I used to be on several times a day but since I have moved back home from China I maybe visit once a week just  to see if anything new has been posted.

Whew... Thank you all. I am leaving for Liuzhou on Tuesday Aug 8th. to meet Li Hong. We have been we chatting for 6 -7 months twice everyday because of our time differences. Wish me luck. I have my iVoice phone translator, WeChat, papers, etc but still very anxious. Li Hong speaks some English, I speak even less Chinese, so it will be interesting for us. I will try and keep everyone posted if that is possible. Wish us luck.

Gus, You will want to take many photos of you and her together over the entire trip with time-stamps if possible. Keep all the receipts from your trip, even the ones you can't read because they will come in very handy in the future(immigration evidence) if you and her decide to get married. I also recommend getting her an email account for future correspondence so you can print out emails to prove an ongoing and bonafide relationship. The most important things to remember is to patient and have a willingness to learn a new culture. Always double check your translations because a bad translation can wreak havoc on new relationships.

When in doubt about something just ask and someone will help you out. If you have never been to China before, you are in for a very pleasant surprise. It is one of the few places that can totally overwhelm all of your senses at once. You might as well get prepared for the questioning that will arise during your visit also, such as exes, children, salary, housing, and everything else she will want to know. You will find out very quick that most Chinese women are very upfront and blunt when money and marriage is concerned.

Good Luck and Enjoy yourself!

Robertt,

Thank you very much. Some great things I have not thought of. This is my second trip to China, the first being a whirlwind tour of Beijing during a musical trip (I am a musician). Now it is serious for Li Hong in her town of Liuzhou. I have never been a photo bug, but will have my iPhone and remember to take pictures. The receipts are a GREAT idea. I can't wait to experience 10 days in China with Lili. If anyone else has tips/ideas now is the time, I leave Tuesday (USA EST) at 09:00am.

Thank you all.

I check on here once a day. (I must get a life!)   But being wheelchair bound in China then what else can I do?

Any problems in China then you can give me a call.

Thanks Willie,
Lift-off in 4 hours, 24 hours travel time, and then I am in Liuzhou. Appreciate all the advice, help, and encouragement. I'll try and stay in touch and post (hoping my VPN and phone works and has wi-fi while in Liuzhou).

Many new things to see, hear, taste, smell. Looking forward to them all.

Have a great trip Gus.

I still have all my boarding passes, flights and everything from my first trip in 2009.
Throw away nothing and copy everything was what I did. You cant have too many photos.
Good luck and I hope all goes well.

Well I just arrived back home from Liuzhou. What a wonderful trip, and beautiful bride & sweet family in law. Now to bring Li Hong to USA. Next hurdle. Any advice?

Filing an I-130 petition for her is the first step! If you need any assistance with the documents needed just let me know! I can show you how to front load a petition that saves you some time with USCIS.
