Title: What does it really cost
Post by: Pineau on October 31, 2011, 12:32:58 am
I am chatting with a lady I met in China last year. She has a boyfriend in America that I think is bull shitting her about the cost of a K1 visa. I think he is setting her up for a scam.
Here are a few extracts from the QQ chat.

Hello! My friend told me the following: "a fiancee visa will take a year or more to complete. It will cost 6,000.00 dollars or more." I do not believe so much money, whether you tell me the real price. The real situation. He said: "a fiancee visa will take a year or more to complete. It will cost 6,000.00 dollars or more."

I want to deal with the visa is k1

So what does it really cost for a K1. I applied for a k3 and it was no where close to $6000.

You know a couple of years ago on the chnlove forum was a guy that spouted large amounts for his wife to come to the states. When it was broken down he included all the EMF costs and the cargo shipping of her furniture and everything else she had? Who knows what this guy is including in?

Costs of getting rid of a scamming male. Free

A friend of mine here spent a lot of time talking with a Texan.  He told her he wanted to get here and then spelt out a lot of reasons why his money was needed elsewhere.  He suggested that he could get here in a month or so if she sent him the cost of Business Flight airline ticket.   My advice was ditch him. The Texan was put out to pastures new.

He really isn't all that far off.

K-1 Visa Application                         $  420.00
Odd Document fees                         $  300.00
Interview Fee                                  $  300.00
Lawyer                                            $1800.00
Medical                                            $  100.00
Flight                                               $1000.00
Status change                                 $1000.00
                                                        =======
                                                        $4920.00

You consider incidental fees and that is pretty close to $6000.00.     Sounds like a guy who is counting the cost mid stream.

The 6 grand is supposed to be for just the application and processing. Neither her nor there if he is trying to count up everything up front. I will itemize it like Shaun did and send it to her so she can see for herself.

What worries me is that he is making noise that he is broke and she is starting to consider paying for his plane tickets.

Personally I wouldn't let the woman lay out any money, so I don't know where he's coming from? (can't relate) This could be a real mess in the future. If he's broke now? How is he suppose to show support when and if she comes to the country? If she must, then she should pay for half his ticket, sending him back.

Get me more info, I'll figure out this guy.

To be continued ....   8)
Anyway, he should visit china first (if he has not). The girl will probably not be allowed out of China to start with, and US will probably not grant a visa to visit someone that she has not met in person ? I'm form Europe so i do not know the US laws. In addition you have the scam thing, and if not a scam, it appear to be someone that is not ready to take responsible for another human being. Off course we only now a small portion of it, but so far it seems something to walk away from.

There are too many unknowns to be offering the advice of ditching the guy.  Why don't we wait and see what the issues are first.

If a guy is going into this blind then he should not be.  He should know that there are a lot of costs involved and he he cannot cope with the cost or he did not even figure on what it may cost then he should not have put himself in the position he now is.

It sounds like he has never even been to China yet.

Well it's not me! lol

Part of this is we don't know if he asked her to pay for the travel or she's offering? Is he thinking the end result ($6000.) or he's coming up with excuses?

The fact that he is in the ballpark as far as figures are concerned tells me that at least he has counted the cost.
