Title: Your home
Post by: Scottish_Rob on February 06, 2010, 11:56:53 am
Was talking toa member this morning and the subject got on to where we live and what it looks like.  This got me thinking about the place I stay, and the thoughts of other members..So i am putting some pictures of my place and some other attractions near me.

Just because  a place LOOKS nice it is not always like that...

For a leisurely geriatric like me Ted, a diving board would represent way too much exertion !!!!!.....lazing in the water with a beer and staggering indoors for a game of pool is as far as I have considered :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:

Here is my abode here in Sunny Cyprus..... Bought the land years ago, designed the house myself, had it built to my spec's. It was completed in 98 and moved in permanently full time (so-to speak) 2005, but spent  more than a few holiday's there with my late wife...

I didn't think the 1960's generic high rise was the best thing to look at, compared to some of the bro's pads. So I'll give you a couple of shots of the views instead, it actually overlooks Crystal palace n i have the West county cricket clubs grounds and Crystal palace's training ground outside so i get a good variety of Sunday sports for free....:icon_cheesygrin: The other is my little holiday home in Brighton marina, great for warm sunny weekends watching the sun go down whilst having a little drink or two...:icon_cheesygrin:

I right-click an image, and choose open with Paint.  Then I go to the image menu and choose strech and skew and try 50% to start.  save (or save-as so you don't replace the original with a small version).  quick and painless.

Nobody wants to see my dump of a place. :s but there are many area photos around. Fort lauderdale is a city. The map shows how big of an area it is. At the top of the map there are two planes shadowed, the second one down.. left wing points to where I live. The other photos are from all around.

There is one of the Hard Rock Casino. Ft. Laud. is a fun place to be, if you have the money? There was a photo I didn't put in of a place called River Front. I found it when it first opened 1998, a very hot spot. then it died down and was sold. Now they are tearing it down and putting what else? Condo's.

No dog, I have a cat that came with the place and ducks since you mentioned them. the other photos here is an alligator that was about 300 feet from my front door. I saw the commotion when I was off to work. (down by that white van) I thought it was an accident because they had all traffic stopped there. I found out when I got home what it was. In the org. photo you can see my home? I don't know where it is though? He just came walking down the street (main road).

That photo is from a Tourist Book that I have had for ages......way out of date as you say.

All the other photos are real and taken with my own camera. I guess the Tourist view of Perth City from the South Perth foreshore must be 10 years old !!!

I live in Brookland Greens (Canningvale) and I have my Offices in South Perth.

I used to live in Northshore...quite close to you...back in the days when I was a married Man !!!

Thats why I moved South of the River...to get as far away from that piece if history as possible :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:

Meant to post this after i posted my main house here in Cyprus, but slipped my mind i guess...lol
Anyway, this is the rental house i purchased as an investment. That's a bit of a joke right now, considering no-ones got any money in Europe...haha!!!!

The small 110 sq mt house is located on a smallish compound comprising of just 9 houses centered around a communial swimming pool in the village of Pervolia. It's just a 3 minute drive from my house and is more of a tourist area, than a village settinig like where i live....

i used to get the neighbors remove my mail at my houses to
keep the undesirables out especially the one in the mountains
took my neighbor 15 minutes to get there every day and it just
cost me 3 cases of beer when i came there in the summer
Title: RE: Your home
Post by: David5o on March 07, 2010, 07:07:15 pm
Ted,

One big reason i came to live in Cyprus, was the fact that there is very little crime here. You rarely hear of any house breaking going on over here, and if there is an instance, it normally turns out to be a tourist or a foreigner..

That mess of mail probably was only delivered that day anyway, as the next door neighbour normally takes in any mail for us and chucks the the junk!!  lol!!!

Actually i've gotten into some real bad habits here, like leaving the keys to the car in the ignition overnight, and other silly things I'm ashamed to mention. haha!!! Hell i wouldn't be able to do that in the UK or most other places i can think of!!!   So i'm going to have to be careful on trips back home and keep reminding myself, ....i'm not in Cyprus now!!!  lol!!!

David......

I live in Seligman and we don't remove car keys, or lock doors, shopping stuff in the back of a pickup will still be there in the morning, go into town and come back the
next day, house unlocked, nothing missing.  Love living here.  only time we roll up windows is when it rains or snows....only crime is idiots going down I-40 with a truck load of weed, and they get
them anyway...  so quiet, you can hear the train 10 miles away and even the alien spaceships don't come around...haha
We are totally lost and forgotten (except at tax time).

Man I wish I could be so lack that I wouldn't have to worry about keys and such, BUT just last week I went to Home Depot to put a order for delivery in and they jimmied my door locks open and stole tools from the van parked RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE HD DOORS. I've found my place now, before I moved in with the front door pried open with a crowbar. Who needs keys?

I used to live in Phoenix and had it happen one time also, and
lost tools, but since moving here, there is no crime.

Ok.
Here is my 2d house, in South of France.
And the other one, is my Parent's 2d house. We are just as "neighbours" in fact, and there is a way from my home to theirs :)

About my flat in Paris, it is "small"?
I'll take some photos today and upload it here, to give any idea. (32 m²), enough for 2 persons, at beginning, but need to change if a baby would come, next.

Just to let you know, guys.
Related to the 2d house, in fact.
At first, it was a "pigeon loft" (birds loft?) and my father wanted to buy it to an old woman because he wanted to do it a home. and because it was very close to their house, the "area" so could be very big, then.
So...  he got it, and then we could make it a very good home :)

David, what do you want ? a home like that one? :D

Ted, that's it, in fact. It is also very good to be there in May/June/July and even August, when the weather becomes a bit warm. Because of the swimming pool which is outside, man can always be happy'...
^^
Even my daughter enjoys going there... always asking my parents "when will I go there with youuuuuuu" ^^'
The last pic was taken from my phone, as I saw a rainbow close to my house, I thought I could take a nice photo :)

David, this is just a small house but well, on 3 floors ^^'
- Bottom : little kitchen, closets, shower room
- Middle : little place, like a living-room.
- Up : Bedroom

It is very nice for a little house, even if a bit "small" one :)

Sylvain D,

I just realised you are living in France. I would love to live there. You have a very nice place. My sister lives in La Roche. I am traveling to France in december. I will have to post pictures.

My house is directly behind the pick up truck. Yes, the truck is mine too. It is the only picture of my house that I have with me. I only just moved there. The other place is my cottage on the lake up north in Ontario. It is in a remote place. You can even drink the water straight out of the lake. There is no hydro, no flush toilets, no running water. But my cell phone works there!  I can see the dock on google earth so I guess there will be no more nude sunbathing. Hahahaha!

I am English by birth and I was many times on holiday in France when I was younger (that was a Loooong time ago !!!)

Like all English schools in those times, I learned French and still remember some.

I was very happy with the South of France...wine, women and song !!! and great weather. But I fear now that the cost of living and the enormous price for houses makes my dream not so real :icon_cheesygrin:

Dave,

nice house that is one thing i miss about china the red brick homes
i always loved the red brick houses. the last house i bought in Calif
was your standard stucco finish house and over the course of one
summer i redid the house in red brick along with the help of my grandsons
and sons and we had a really great time as i taught them how to lay
the brick. it made for a very unique house in stockton that people
walking their dogs would always stop and talk to me about when they
saw me out front. when i escaped California and came to China there
were 7 houses in the neighborhood that had done the same.

as they say the greatest compliment is when someone copies
your idea :icon_cheesygrin:

You have touched on the one point that always influences me when I think of moving to China to be with Ming....I dont know if I could cope with living in an Apartment with no garden !!!!

I know there are some pretty swish Apartments to be had....but a few plants on my balcony would not be my idea of "outdoors" :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:

Maybe I should think about moving to the Country China and get a farm !!!!!...but I got too used to electricity and running water (haha)

David ,

a few cities have small communities popping up just like they have in the
USA with standard houses in planned community. they have them in Guilin
and here on the outside of Guangzhou which i recently discovered. When i
get my permenant residency visa then Sisi and i were talking of buying in one
of these. she just loved it when she saw it and thought it was the greatest
idea since sliced bread  lol

Ted and David E,

I had two rather large vegetable gardens in the house I had with my ex. One was 15' X 120' and the other was 35'x 80'. Had 5 flower beds around the house and 2 stand alone.  Had 60 fruit trees, mostly apple and pear. Also had a couple grape vines too, about 100 feet worth. My property was almost 2 acres. This was in the city. I will be moving again soon. I will miss the gardens the most. This will be the first year I have not grown my own veggies in about 25 years. I'm gonna miss the gardening the most.

Sylvain D,

My sisters place is in La Roche Sur Furon? (I am not sure of the spelling) I usually just say La Roche. It is near Geneva Switzerland. They are about 20 minutes away.  My sister works in Geneva. I have heard of La Rochelle but this is not where they live. I will see if I can find a picture of their place and post it. I'm not sure if I have one with me though.

David E,

I'm jealous of your pool table ... and your pool is lovely with that waterfall. I actually forgot to buy a pool table even if I would have the space here. But then between that, spending time on this forum and on QQ, when would I get any work done?

I won't post a pic of my Napoleon III style chateau, you'd think it's a joke anyway. It's in such bad condition that it wouldn't look that great on a photo anyway, donations are accepted :icon_cheesygrin:

I won't post a pic of my Napoleon III style chateau, you'd think it's a joke anyway. It's in such bad condition that it wouldn't look that great on a photo anyway, donations are accepted :icon_cheesygrin:

Frank

With a swimming pool, a pool table, a good wine cellar and 200 bottles of excellent home brewed beer, I can always be sure that some bunch of reprobates or other come over at the weekend !! Dont know how this can survive when Ming gets here.......I think they will all have to wait for written invitations !!!!

Just throw in some picture from earlier this winter. Much less snow now. Took the picture to illustrate snowfall this winter. Guess this will also server the purpose of sharing my neighborhood with you.

hmm, those gobblers look tasty, how do you harvest them for your turkey sandwiches? When my mother had the 62 acres up north there were wild turkeys there, I'd sneak up and head shoot them with a .22, down here in 740 acres, no turkeys, just deer and goats.
