Thank you, everyone!!! Yes, we are very busy now. China is an amazing place!!! One cannot know Chinese culture without coming here first. I have experienced more here in the last few days than my entire life before!!
Oh, don't forget to remove your shoes, and put on the slippers before coming in the door... haha
Oh so much to tell, so little time...

And you have a lot more to come. What your seeing is Chinese hospitalty at its best.
Once they are used to you then you will discover real Chinese life.
But unless your staying you are also going to go through the anguish of parting and being thousands of miles apart.
I stayed so did not have that painful time to go through.

I really wish I could do what you do Willy. If my wife's immigration gets denied, I'll be really tempted to sell everything and move to China, even if it's only until she can come to Canada in the end. I really miss China and all the wonderful friends and family.
Congratulations Mark. I can't wait to hear about your trip.
-
One of the few good things about the ageing process Neil is the two private pensions I now collect. Not large as I retired early but sufficient to let me have a comfortable life here. So, I have that cushion that others do not have.
I can sit here and watch Chinese life go by and at the same time work on my online website and enjoy the new apartment we bought.

Congrats ... Don't forget to document and take lots of pictures for your application.

CONGRATS MARK TO YOU BOTH ;D
-
Listen To Martin, Mark.
Your going to need every scrap of evidence to convince your authorities that you are a genuine couple.
The fact that you married within a few days of meeting is going to need many months and many visits back to China to convince them. There will be evidence in your Passport when you first arrived in China but what evidence did you save from your early contact?
Immigrants from China and West Africa have the hardest time to get clearance to most Western Countries.
So enjoy your time now and be prepared for the loooonnnnngggg wait. In the meantime take photo after photo and store them off your computer.
In fact store every as copies off your computer. If it crashes then you wont lose the evidence.
Willy
-
I agree with Willy. Start now gathering the evidence. If your case is out of the ordinary they will require lots of data and evidence to explain it. At least that is the way it was for me (from the USA). See my 4th post on page 10 of the thread End of the road. That will give you an idea of the paperwork requirement if they suspect something out of the ordinary.
-
When I was going through this process, I printed a few conversations from QQ/MSN from each month. I also printed off around 200 pictures. There was photo copies of every receipt, plane ticket stub, photo copies of the visa, and basically anything else that seemed relevant to the file. The more you can provide, the less likely they will ask you for more.
-
Good day Mark.
When are we going to get an update. Originally you were going to be in China for 12 days. Either your still there or your back in Canada now.
We are all waiting for news with baited breath.

Thanks everyone for the congrats!!! Yes, I am back in Canada now.
Caught a bit of a cold the last day I was there, and still recovering from the jet lag.
It was like a scene from a movie. She was waiting for me at the airport in Shanghai with flowers. As soon as she saw me, she started calling my name.
We hugged, kissed and just looked at each other smiling. There was no doubt , she was the one. We stayed in Shanghai one night and then went to
Hangzhou the next day to celebrate my birthday. She surprised me with a birthday cake at a local resteraunt. We then travelled to her apartment in the suburbs of Hanzhou. On Sept 23 we went and got married at the registration office. We took care of a lot of the immigration paper work as well.
Very cheap to get all the documents nortorized and translated and certified copies made! We had a large family dinner to celebrate the marriage.
We travelled to the West Lake, and walked across the famous Broken Bridge there. China is an amazing and beautiful place!!! I had to get used to crossing the streets though..wow..you have to always be looking... not just the cars coming at you but the silent electric motorbikes and regualr bikes
comming from behind you as well. I will write more later..... I will post pics later to, when I have time to resize them....
-
:) :) :) :) :) :) I left "MY' Heart in Shanghai/Hangzhou , if you see it .. just say "HI" a but leave it .
May Love smile on you both .. forever !

From catching a cold to being back in the cold, welcome back and congratulations. I hope you will feel all mended by Thanksgiving so that you can enjoy your Turkey and stuffing.

by Thanksgiving so that you can enjoy your Turkey and stuffing.
Funny you should say that. Sometime either this morning or last night someone (possibly a politician) on TV said how Thanksgiving is exclusively an American Holiday? D'uh!
-
Our Thanksgiving is this coming Monday. I guess we celebrate earlier than the USA because we got to get the snow shovel out of the shed in time for preparation H .... Homecoming of Old Man Winter :-\
-

Now comes the Looooonnnngggg Loooonnnngggg wait!
Nice pics. Now don't forget everything written since then, save it. You will need every scrap.
Also be aware do not write anything anywhere that may be construed as being other than a perfectly loving marriage.
Walls have ears and eyes and these forums definately have officials looking at them from time to time.

Yes .. the Red Books always seem to be the EASY part of those Journey's . Now that you have your Foot in Warm Water , you have to dive in and both of you swim across the BIG pont .
Lovely Wife - wonderful Photo's - beautiful Hangzhou - ahhhh .. life is GOOD .
Thansk Mark and Congrat's to both of you .

thanks for all the warm wishes!!! Most people get to start their new after life together after marriage, where as I had to leave and come back to Canada. I find it pretty hard to be seperated from her!!!
Here are a couple of pictures from the local supermarket, kinda like Safeway in Canada, but with a few extra item......
They also had turtles available as well !!!

But the point is Mark just about everyone on here who married a Chinese lady has to go through that except the odd ones who have been in a position to stay here.
I am sure in the next 12 months or so you will find a way back to China as often as possible.
