Title: EU- Willys View
Post by: Pineau on June 25, 2016, 01:40:02 pm
Completely off base for this forum but I would like Willy's opinion on the Britain's exit from the EU.  Is is good for the people of Britain? What will be the impact of this decision on Britain's economy? Any social aspects to this.
Who is next? Is the EU going to survive?

I have read so many opinions and it seems to be the consensus that it in the long term be good for Britain. In the Short term it just took a BIG bite from my retirement account.

Lets hope that I am still around when everything is dusted and settled. :o

It could be three years before the UK is free of the control that the EU has over it.  They make our laws and set some of our taxes.

If I was in the UK I would have voted to leave.  30 odd years ago I did not vote for a unelected body to control every aspect of my life in the UK as it has quietly and stealthly become.

I, like millions of others, voted for a common market, pure and simple, not for what has it evolved into, a giant undemocratic body of empire builders.

I lived through WW2 where millions died to prevent such a situation arising then a politicians let this happen by the back door.

It may suit the young of the country as it is but us oldies knew what things were like before and what it has become now. :'(

Mind you the reason we had a referendum was a ploy by the ruling Conservative party to win over a lot of its own members who wanted to leave and were siding towards a new party formed for fighting for Independence from Europe. The ploy worked and they were re elected.

However they seriously underestimated the grey power and the result is over 60's won the day leaving the markets around the World in turmoil and the campaigning was the reason one very dedicated young female member of parliament was murdered ass a result of the referendum campaign.

The Prime Minister who thought a referendum was a good idea has announced his resignation.

The pound has dropped to around 1.35 US Dollars from around 1.48 so there will be a delay before I make any transfers from UK to here for a while.

That will mean a loss of about 4500 rmb a month income by my calculations.  Oh well our Shenzhen investments have paid off nicely. 8)

It appears that the leave crowd got tired of having policies and regulations shoved down their throats by the EU council and not having the option of debate or the choice to refuse the councils decisions and policies. I think this hopefully will slow the forced globalization of Europe and prevent the total disappearance of English society and culture due to the influx of third world immigrants who have no desire to assimilate to their host countries societies. I have always believed Merkel was crazy for throwing the doors of Europe open to anyone without regard to their past history or country of origin.

The EU council has all the say so as to what happens in the EU and their decisions are final and are not subject to deliberation from any of the affected member states, so it effectively neuters a country's right to control their own borders and trade agreements.  An EU member country now has to abide by what the member council decides is best for the EU and not the individual member state. The poor countries and rich elitists were mostly the ones who wanted to remain because they have the most to lose.

Sort of ironic actually, seems the BREXIT vote was the English version of our Boston Tea Party. 8)

I'll play the devil's advocate. I feel bad for the Europeans.
I think the E.U. not a problem idea but maybe morphed into a structural political deficiency. Northern Europe has supported Southern Europe. Not that this is all bad, but maybe the entry of a few of the Southern states was a bit to soon.
The play is the catastrophic immigration of middle Eastern refugees has really f'kd things up. There is no such thing as shit just happens", but the main powers were playing fast & loose with their middle Eastern proxy states back in the 80's. One thing people do not realize was that the '60s Viet Nam was an exceptional engagement, being Viet Nam was a country not in the middle East with a lot of oil. We knew the importance of middle East oil. A stable middle East was a strategic political asset.
But that caution got trashed with the schizophrenic cowboy foreign policies 20 years later. The middle East.. what a f'kn mess this is.

A large part of my decision to migrate to Aus was the awful prospect of Britain joining the "EU Common Market".......

Maybe it will be safe to go back now  ;D ;D ;D  (NOT)
