Thanks, I bookmarked that site for later. No plans to go to China soon but I will be going. (Moving to for a few years)
-
Wow! That is a huge resource of information. Thanks Mike.
-
Thanks Mike. Good resource. But understand that if you are visiting nothing is "required" as yet. It is probably a very good idea to have the shots though. I do not think I would go through the rabies injections unless I absolutely had to.
-
So Hep A and B shots are both a good idea huh?
-
I didn't bother with my trip last winter but this time we are going to a nature beauty spot and of course it will be a lot hotter so am a little more concerned.
I'm going to ask my doc if i should get some shots.

Back in October last year, when I was with Ping, I went to the doctor to get my Hep shots because I was planning a trip to spend time with her during my birthday. (Oct. 28) Well, that fell though because of lack of funds but anyway, I just found one of the information sheets. I'll share what it says with all of you in hopes it answers any questions that could be on your mind.
The drug is called Twinrix and it's a Hep A and B Vaccine. It's applied by injecting three separate needles all one week apart from one another over a three week period.
Common uses
This product is a vaccine that will help you develop an immunity to hepatitis A and hepatitis B. Even though you may not feel its effects, this medication takes effect after a few weeks.
How to use this medication
This medication must be administered by a health professional. Because complete vaccination requires several doses of this product to be given at specific times, it is important to keep your scheduled doctor's appointments.
Keep this product in the refrigerator and do not allow it to freeze. Keep it out of reach of young children.
Possible side effects
In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
- it may cause unusual tiredness;
- it may cause a feeling of discomfort;
- it may cause nausea or, rarely, vomiting;
- it may cause redness and swelling at the injection site.
Each person may react differently to a treatment. If you think this medication may be causing side effects (including those described here, or others), talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
General information
It is important to tell your pharmacist:
- If you have a history of any other medical condition, whether you smoke and for women, if you are pregnant or breast feeding;
- if you have allergies to any medications or any other allergies (e.g. to food, latex, etc.);
- all medications you are taking, prescription and non-prescription, including vitamins and natural products and supplements.
-
Hep and TB, personally I suggest both, especially if you are going to be joining any tour groups. I am glad I went through both sets of shots, especially thankful when you have meals with strange people you have never met in your life ^_^
-
I didnt get any shots. Look in the obits next year to see if i faired it well. hehe.
I suppose you'd have to judge the likelyhood of how necessary it is.
-
I'll ask my doctor what he figures but I'd sure as heck hate to spend a week of my vacation being sick.
"Shoot me up with whatever you got Doc. Just make sure I don't come down til I'm back in Canada."
-
I am happy this was up I was kinda sweating it. I was sure I would need some sort a vaccination. Nope. Looks like I am good to go. I am asthmatic though I must have steriods for my lungs before I enter china. Or I am certain to have an asthma attack.
-
Hey Josh where ya been?
Seeing photos of China I think it will give me an asthma attack too? And I'm not asthmatic and I smoke (for now). :icon_cool:

Hey Vince, I have been trying to get ready for this trip. i am excited about my trip just super nervous. That and Looking for potential employers when i return home. Looks like I could be A crime scene specialist.

I Have not had not had any injections before coming here. BUT i have fallen to a stinking cold. had it three days and today Luo Li, who is a doctor at local hospital took me to a local private clinic where i was given an intravenous drip, lasting 45 minutes and within 2 hours no cold left at all.

I was thinking of getting the Hep and TB shots but am worried that they will raise my temperature before going slightly as these things seem to work by forcing your body to react to a weak version of the virus? I am going in just over three weeks time.
So, in such a situation am I likely to be hauled of the plane in Beijing due to raised temperature and fear of the swine flu?
-
I would say.. just take some ice and apply it on your head (in the closet if you want) just before landing.. ^^
There are some "items" which can be cold and hot and heal your body when you feel tired or anything like that.
it is "liquid" form at first, but it can be solid, (ice), or liquid (warm)

I started yesterday to drink a gallon of water and taking a little more vitamin c. Keep me hydrated and away from a cold. I think Im gonna take some pepto as well. They say not to eat food at the vendors. But I have to make the most of this expierence.

Ronan..I organised those shots to be given to me 4 weeks before I go, apparently everything should be ok:icon_biggrin:
