WOW I must say that this forum has died on the vine as one would say. It has been a while since i have been on it
and i must say nothing was missed.

I agree, guess it is due to the bad Economy and the cost of doing this (many times fake and unpleasant)Adventure finding a Bride. Another thing, here in the US these "Match" Agency's have multiplied like weeds. So why spend $1000's when it can be done for much less and easier to find out if fake or truthful as visiting is much less troublesome.
Anyways, I'm still attached somewhat to this Site and do come here now and then.. maybe find something new or of interest.

It does not seem that I am now facing completing seven years here but even in that time I have seem changes in China.

I can see that people are visibly better off financially. The housing market around this way is still booming thanks to the high prices of properties in neighbouring Hong Kong.  Ok one day the bubble may burst but unlike in the west very few will ever lose their homes if it does. But hey, I have been told by Westerners that bubble is about to burst ever since I got here and its still going strong!

Homes in our Garden complex have all been sold even though the building work is not finished yet.

The number of people wanting to leave the country for a better life overseas is diminishing as they are finding a better life here.

Last one out, please turn out  the lights.  Actually, there are still a lot of ladies contacting me on QQ asking for help finding a western husband.  But finding interested men has been a problem.

Last one out, please turn out  the lights.  Actually, there are still a lot of ladies contacting me on QQ asking for help finding a western husband.  But finding interested men has been a problem.

I do meet many women here, in fact every three months we have 30 plus come to our home for evening get togethers. Nearly half of these have no husbands and would love to have one.  But in that respect I find that I have created a mini problem in my area. That is because I came, I saw, I stayed!

Many of those I meet would prefer to have a husband in the same situation as my wife and I. ( But as my wife tells me 'I am one in a million!')

I must admit that over the years I have developed a part Western part Chinese lifestyle!  My wife has learned more English than I have Chinese so our conversations are in Chinglish!

She has learned to cook Western style even though she herself only eats Chinese dinners but sometimes we tuck into Western lunches together.

I get all the English Premier League football (soccer) on TV because association football is becoming big in China. I can watch UK or USA TV at the touch of a button.  (That button is often used when on comes the comedy classic of the season which goes by the name of the US Presidential Election  ;D ;D ;D)

The one difference in my life in China and the UK is that here I am looked after like I have never been looked after before.

Living permanently here is not for everyone but for me it is everything.

I had to brush the cobwebs away. :(
Kind of odd situation we have here. Even many of the old hands do not venture this way too often.  The lurkers still lurk.. most of them sitting out in the cold looking in. Oh well, it does not matter because I think there are a lot of external issues out there that affect participation here. And that is something we cannot control. That is something that has to play out.
When it comes down to it, committing to a China bride does take a lot of resources. Financial, emotional, whatever label. The journey seems the end of the world, but for me it is a measly, less than a half day trip, to visit China. To the uninitiated, seems maybe a moon shot.
For those out & about, my suggestion is to get your passport! That is 50% of your effort to see what this world & China is all about.

What's with the wink ?????? .... neither my wife nor I am pregnant so I can squash that fertile rumor.

Yes this site has been quite quiet and maybe I will post some videos and pictures from this weekend Mother's Day performance my wife played at with some of her students. Besides her group, there was some dance groups as well. It was a Chinese cultural show, and except for one brave gweilo, singing in karaoke Cantonese, the performers where Chinese. Besides being a Mother's Day show, the concert also raised fire disaster relief funds for the raging fire we have in northern Alberta.

Which comes to mind - an area that Martin works around. I hope your safe Martin and still trucking.

So I could crash at your place without worrying about my wife crashing?

So far I can't seem to find my cord to attach my camera to the computer to download my film and pictures. It's also the same cable that recharges my phone. I guess with so many people just using their camera from their phones, its an accessory that most camera stores don't carry anymore. So I might need to order straight from Sony.

If we do go on a new trip ending of this year or early next year - I'm not sure if I will be going as well with my wife. Since I work in the Oil industry, my salary has taken a 20% hit. At least I still have a job with health benefits. My department only 2 years ago had 24 people and now we are down to only 8. And strangely, even with such a low rate for oil, the price for gas at the pump has only slightly gone down.

Hi everyone    yes it seems very quiet now-days   but times are changing  very fast,  people who visited every day and left some feedback  are now busy with there new life  with their wife's , the  Men interesting in finding a Chinese wife have put things on the back burner due to the Global economy meltdown,
so many things  have  contributed   to the situation ,  so its a matter of riding things out  I'm sure things could improve  in the future,
good to hear from  they guys on this topic,   how time goes  by,  Willy  coming on 8 yrs in china ,  and me been married almost 5.5 yrs now,  my best wishes  to all that still, frequent  the site,  in times of need we should stick together it would be sad to see it all come to end

Wish we could get some interested new members. I still am helping ladies with advice and introductions. No sense of putting them on display here. Since there are no new members the nothing will happen except the lurkers will try to exploit them

Like Willy, I am living the life of Riley in China with my little family, wife, 3 year-old son, 13 year-old stepdaughter (stepson is in university in Shanghai, getting ready to do a couple of years military service).
Most of the stuff in the media about China is wrong, which suits me fine. I can just carry on enjoying being as happy, as free, as un-spied-upon and as wealthy as I've ever been. Like Willy, I'm still waiting for this disastrous economic collapse that all the debt-ridden Western economies swear is imminent. lol.
So, life is sweet, there are probably lots of everyday events in my life that could be of interest in a forum with active members, but not for people that only want to talk about U.S. politics.

I agree with Philip life here is more than good. I want to live no where else until my final curtain is lowered.
I laugh at some of the rubbish media items I see and read about China. ;D  The Chinese people have never had it so good. Come to think of it neither have I. ;D

Civil rights bah humbug! ;)  What civil rights do I have here? 8)  I have all that I want -  I can walk out at night without the fear of being mugged or being in bed at night without the fear of my home being broken into both things that I could not do either in London or most other big cities in the Western World.

The 'disastrous economy'  here has been good to tens of millions of Chinese and me. Wages have risen and house prices are such that for the last few year my investments in property have outstripped any other investments.  I keep hearing the western profits of doom telling me that the housing bubble will burst but guys you have been telling me that since I arrived here in 2009. Things still keep growing and long may it do so.

Of course there is a big difference between the West and China. The vast majority of home purchasers here are paid for in full without any loans from banks. Loans are usually for no more that 25 % - 50 % of the value for those who do use banks. So the loans do not outstrip the value of the properties.

Mind you I am not against USA politics.  They are like movies and they start of with the highly comical primaries which leads to the backstabbing back chatting jibes and eventual we get to the pathos and when just one on each side go head to head there vare the false promises and eventually we have the horror of realising just whose finger is on the trigger.

What is different to the west than here. The people in the west THINK their votes count. Where as here! ::)

Another aspect is that there are those of us who feel it is unsafe to post anything on this site.  Sorry Robert.  There are abuses and predators who will screw you up if they get half a chance.  They get booted of this site but there isn't anything one can do to keep them from coming on as anther person.  So several of us just don't post anymore.

I think Mark Twain summed up politics perfectly. "if voting made a difference they would not let you do it"

Hi Shaun....

Good to see you are still "up and about"....sorry to have not heard from you for so long "!!
Why do you get so uptight about the "trolls" that we get here from time to time...sticks and stones.......

Talking about the Chinese economy... ;D ;D

In Aus we are constantly barraged with the doom and gloom that our economy will suffer as China enters its own economic meltdown...woe is us !!!

What nobody seems to realise is that China has moved from an annual growth rate of 15% plus, to a more rational 7% as its own economy matures and moves towards a service based model...such as it has done in Western economies as they matured.

Interestingly....if the developed Western Countries were currently achieving a growth rate of 7% there would be dancing in the Streets...how come everybody is so depressed !!!!

Its all politics...logic does not apply

I know that this is a strange way to compare how the economy has changed in China but when I first arrived in 2009 nearly every baby and toddler was being carried on a females back. Whether the adult was mother, grandmother aunt or whatever.

Now 7 years on it is rare to see a child carried that way as they have the now have pushchairs or strollers. Even the fathers and grandfathers are happy to be pushing them.

Hi David.  There are a few I do miss talking to on this site.  Be sure trolls are not my issue.  It is members.  Sticks and stones are par for the course in life and my skin is tougher than that.

Shaun is correct. It is the few selective members who have brought the site down from were it was a few years ago.
There were to many know it alls who thought they knew everything and went after a few select members. Its all in
the past but i feel it is the root cause of why this forum died. After talking with Stephanie she feels ok with it if i
decide to look more often and give advice when i can to a new member if needed.

Life is good now and i really didnt think it would turn out like it did.  Our daughter is growing and she keeps me young.
Will be back in Guangzhou in September just before National day and looking forward to the 3 month break back there.

I had to awake this thread..

I do not think Paradise lost!

on my last visit in September, I saw quite a few Westerners in Shenyang. of course, in a large 4- Star hotel where
my wife & I stayed, I had a few conversations. all these guys were with their Chinese girlfriends. or wives. the
times I saw Western couples were quite a few also, most had children in tow.

the thing is "boy chases girl" has never really disappeared. maybe the forums fell out of favor but it seems
as if the China playing fields are still busy.
at times I look at www.chinalovecupid.com for fun, and I will say that site has a wealth of potential.
there are thousands of ladies there.

nowadays, the agencies, no one talks about. the marketing of the product has changed.
the thing is you still have to sell yourself to the woman you want to meet. knowledge is good... this is where forums
should reign.
but I think another factor comes into play. air tickets are cheap. accommodations are cheap. I can visit China for two
weeks for less than $1000. & live well. now I can take two or three China visits for less cost than what I spent on
my first China visit 9 years ago.
China is cheap. just go. do it.

still, kinda weird to see the level of introspection on some of the postings. sort of like a dog chasing it's own tail.
