Title: Well I won't be in Kansas anymore.
Post by: Rhonald on September 22, 2009, 10:06:57 pm
I finally decided to book my tickets as I saw the price starting to rise from on line sites. I went to the travel agency in Calgary's Chinatown and paid $840 Cdn (travel agency phoned me next day and forgot about a 61 dollar tax - so just over 900 Cdn now) for round trip via San Fran to Hong Kong. I will be going Oct. 14th and returning Oct 27th.

On October 20th I will have a wedding ceremony with my wife in Shenzhen. I have been instructed that the night of October 19th I will have to vacate the apartment and be a bachelor that night before collecting her on the morning of the 20th. There will be tradtional Chinese wedding tests I will have to pass before she will leave her apartment with me. I am told that a pair of red shoes will be hidden somewhere for me to find inorder to place upon her feet to signify her new life.

As a good boy scout - I already have a plan :fi_lone_ranger: I will purchase a pair of red shoes and take them with me so I can claim to pass this test. Hey, if Captain Kirk can cheat constructively (Kobayashi Maru test ) - why can't I.

There will be a few other test preparred for me so I hope I can circumnavigate them inorder to gain my prize. I will try to update some pictures while over there

Rhonald,

So where in China is this happy nuptial taking place?  Maybe we can all help out in the search for the red shoe.

I saw a couple coming out of a wedding shop the other day all dressed up in their finery.  Her in flowing dress and him in white suit at 8am in the morning.  I was told that  they were off to get their wedding photos taken two weeks before their marriage so they look good in the official photos!  The've probably been to the same stag nights as me where, following a good night,  the groom looked like S--t on the wedding day!!

Rhonald

What a wonderful story. You are such a lucky man.

In Zhuhai we were visiting the Fisher Girl and there must have been fifty couples getting their wedding photos done. They all looked so happy.

I love the Chinese marriage and family traditions, and it sounds like you do too. By joining in with them, you become part of something so much larger. Your life becomes that much more meaningful.

I think it is sad that so many people in the west just live together rather than getting married. I think that marriage is superior to co-habitation in so many ways.

Well done and best wishes.

Danny

Thats fantastic news Rhonald, my CONGRATS! :icon_biggrin:

Oh, one last thing, I do not know if you know this, but according to tradition, before you put the red shoes on her feet, you must first kiss them:icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin: LOL,,    Actually that is true, no BS. You must kiss one foot first, then put the red shoe on that foot,,then kiss the other foot, and then put the red shoe on that foot. You may want to ask her if there is a foot that you must kiss first? Right? Left? LOL. Well, I do not think you will mind kissing her feet or ,,,,,,,,,,, beep,,,,,,,,, ,  oh come on people !, I meant LIPS (top) ,:dodgy::icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:,LOL,Naughty, some of you are starting to worry me, LOL.

Have a great time in China, all the best to you and your future bride.

I will give you a clue to my thread's title.....Now Dorthy click your heels together three times and say,"there's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home."

If you remember the movie, then you will know what magical device she needed to use to get home and where her home was.

Sorry I like to use indirect references in my puns and prose. But I sometimes forget that we have old timers here that still calculate using their pocket abacuses.

As long as there is no donkey for me to kiss, I will be perfectly happy kissing her feet. Does anyone know if toe jam tastes good? :-/

Yes I even though of this. Since she lives on the third floor, I would by pass the normal way and find an extension ladder and sneak in through  the bathrom window. I remember there are no bars there.

I can't remember which curtain to look behind for the answer...
Does anyone know who the king of the forest is...
I guess I'd better get back to Munchkin Land and see if I can figure this all out...

So there is a reason for Ruby Red Shoes and the weddings.

It is all comming together.  But having been to kansas, I would take two pairs in case I got stuck there.

I am in the longest and hardest stage of the visa process. It's called "The Great Wait". Doctors can't help this paitience unless... maybe hum.... Dr Who and that magical phone booth he travels in.

Great News, Rhonald :) so, did you even have kiss any feet before, as you'll have to kiss some two, but for a very special moment ?
And are you meaning you'll go with some red shoes, so, if you can't find the righteous ones, anyway, you'll got some other ones with you, so that would be ok? ^^
Anyway I wish you all the best for the process of the visa and that you can get it ASAP, even if it can take more than 5 days) because you're leaving soon, as I can read your thread.

Thanks for your comments Sly - I have also been reading your thread with great interest. I am enjoying the updates. Yes my plan for bringing a pair of red shoes is for the reason you gave. For the Visa - it can get confusing: 1 visa is the credit card type, the other visa is the one we need to go to China with, and the last and hardest visa to aquire is the visa for our wives to journey to our homeland.

This last visa requires us to be married and then applying to our Government to allow her to come to live permanently with us. This is the visa that Arnold just got granted for his wife, and like them, our visa will probably take a year before we find out if we pass the government scrutiny. It is this nerve racking waiting that can make us become a patient if we lose our patience. Thus my need for Dr Who's magical phone booth.

Wow, so, 3 visas ??? That sounds strange, because I never heard about so much in France (and maybe in Europe, also?)
Well, If it can take one year before getting the last one, you'll have to wait for a real good reason :)
Thanks about your comment related to my trip too, Rhonald. I wish it will be "better" once I'll be in Gz', cause tonight was more like a hurricane than anything else.

Sly,

I think maybe your confused about the Visa's Rhonald is talking about here

1/ Visa Credit Card (Bank Card)
2/ China Entry Visa (Passport Visa)
3/ Wife's Resident Visa

Hope that clears things up for you, So basically exactly the same official Visa's that we need in Europe for visiting China and Bringing our wifes to our country...

David.....

To me, so, Visa Credit Card would be more like "Cost of Visa", that's why I didn't really understand :)
'seems like tonight, I need some rest ^^', thanks for your comment, David ;)

David, I got on my mobile a software with "simple" sentences, english to chinese, but not chinese to english. And I can not write any word to translate it to chinese. I wanted to look for a translation device, but I didn't need when I saw Dora, as her english is quite good. But related to Flora, for sure, it would had been helpful to have one...
I know just a few sentences, but I thought that Flora could had learnt a bit some more english. But it just seemed that not. Well, I'll check for one when I'll see Lyian, anyway I told her about an electronic translator, and she agreed with it. And by the way, Cecilia is very good in english, too, so, I just met a real problem with Flora. (too bad, because she's very nice...and that via EMF's, it was very good to talk to each other)

I think we all had a pretty good idea of what would be involved when starting this . So , since myself and other's are alive and well through all this ... the rest will manage too . But like David50 said it's only the beginning and the hardest part might still be ahead .
If any of us married ones , would ever doubt that it's all worth it ... we woundn't be here telling you how great those Wife's are .

Sorry guys.....with tears in my eyes, I have been keeping to myself the knowledge that Mike's last post on this site was here. And less then 2 hours later, his wife posted the dreadfull news under missing members. Mike will not be in Kansas anymore and he will be dearly missed.

I wish to close this thread so I will ask Irish to do me the favour.
