Title: Tariff & Declarations Taking Jewelry
Post by: JC on December 15, 2012, 10:09:28 pm
Has anyone had experience with declaring jewelry?  I wanted to take a ring, and necklace, earnings and such but am not sure if I should or the best and safest way to get this to her.  Paying 10% will be a pain but if that is what it takes then???

I have been in and out of China more than 10 times since I arrived in 2009 and have never once been pulled at customs.  It may depend on which port you enter of course but I personally have never been checked in.

Just carry it in your hand luggage, that will go through the scanner at the point of entry but they are looking for organic items or multiple items not the individual metalic items.

I did have something sent in by courier once and it did cost me 12% in custom charges.
