Title: Public Warnings, Recalls and outcries.
Post by: Pineau on April 28, 2011, 01:54:16 am
Could not find a place for this so I started a new thread.  From time to time I hear stories or read about or see on the news information that may be of use to members living or visiting in China.

The latest one was posted on QQ and forwarded to me.

Have your Chinese girlfriend or wife to translate but it basically says that the Shenzhen police are warning folks about a group of criminals that approach you trying to sell you tea. Of course everyone shopping for tea will smell it. This tea is laced with drugs that will make yo dizzy and faint. You are then relieved of your money, bank card and coerced out of your passwords. And sometimes end up dead. The article had a photo of a body on the autopsy table.  I don't know how true this is but it looked official to me. They are in Guangdong, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Tianjin.

This week the Guangzhou TV news reported a story of a CarreFour store selling preseasoned beef. Only problem was. It was not beef.  Turns out to be pork. (for those Kosher folks who want to eat pigs with a clear consience).  Anyway from the video it looks terrible to begin with. More like jello than meat. The investigators rinsed off the seasoning and sure enough its not beef. It is lite colored like pork or chicken.

Its hard to beleive that this very large chain store could even contemplate this sort of deception but I guess someones pockets were getting stuffed to look the other way.  So the moral is noone is immune to corruption and stay away from preseasoned and prepared meats if you dont recognize the contents of the package.

It seems that the fraudsters have now moved on to eggs. ::)
Recently, the republic's major state television broadcaster, China Central Television, had uncovered an illicit process of making fake eggs??????!.
Its investigations also uncovered a deluge of Do-It-Yourself DVDs that can teach one how to make fake eggs being sold all over the country.
Media reports state that the production cost of the fake eggs is said to be about 0.05 yuan and that it can be easily sold off for the price of a real egg, which retails from 0.50 yuan.
Only in China  ;D
 8) psssst if you want the video send me a pm  ???

Thanks Paul for cracking open this scrambled plot. The people who hatched this idea should be poached on site, no going over easy on them. The thought of this has turned me from being sunnyside up  :) to hard boiled  >:(

Well there must really be a benedict in China to do such a dastardly deed. If I were there and the person was caught I would challenge him to an egg shell dual at 50 paces or until I can't see the egg whites of his eyes.  I read somewhere that Humpty Dumpty wanted to prosecute.    All of this yoking around has got me fried.

From weird asia news.....Folks in Shanghai have discovered pork the glows blue in the dark.  The meat comes from Changsha and the glow is caused by a bacteria contamination. Dont say where else besides Shanghai the meat has been shipped...BUT DONT WORRY. Just cook it and it is safe to eat....yea Right!

I read the the Shanghai Daily News on the internet quite regularly.  The stories of foods that get poisoned to make them last longer or look or taste better is amazing.  Somehow this has to change in China.  How many people are going to die and get sick before that happens?

But then if 1.5 million die that is less than 0.1% of the population.

More chance of being shot in some places in the western world.

Willy

How come I missed out on the eggs this time?

Here (NZ) at the local supermarket there is always a queue of Chinese folks
buying up tins of Fontera powdered milk to send back 'home'.
SanLu's melamine flavouring has greatly assisted our export industry :-)
