I used two simply phrases in my last letter to my lady.  Ni Hao (simple enough) and you are lovely

She excited responded with some chinese. I need a little assistance in the translation.

1. Ni hao ma? Hen kai xin shou dao ni de lei xin.

2. xie xie ni wo zai ze ni deng ni de lai xin (which had followed "Have a nice week and hope to hear from you soon".  Is this what she said?

Any assistance would be great!

I have used some of these phrases in my last couple phone conversations. She was very suprised and asked in a letter where i learned them. She said she was impressed and touched by the effort i was making. Most of our conversations have been allot of laughing and once in a while a big WHAT from her when she doesnt understand me. Anyway thanks guys as the thread says i think i impressed my lady!

1. We geht es Dir ? Du kannst aber sehr good sprechen mit Mir .
2. Danke Dir , Ich warte auf Dein weiteres schreiben von Dir .

Now I think it is easier to translate from german to english , then chinese to english . Hehe
This is what she said .

Great Neil - but I get a bigger giggle from her when I get the pronounciation wrong!!   Those in UK will understand me when I say my Mandarin is a bit like the French language of the gendarme in 'Hello Hello'

Thanks to you guys - I will have enough phrases to fill my daily text quotas until I get to Zhuhai next week.

Wo xiang yao yi bei cha jia nai = I would like a cup of tea with milk.

Just a suggestion, could we possibly post ourselves trying to speak Chinese so everyone can listen and let us know our mistakes? I recorded myself speaking this sentence but I don't see any way to upload it to this thread. Something to think about, mods?

Here's some more Chinese;

Wo ai wo de piao liang nv pengyou = I love my beautiful girlfriend.

??????????? = I need Jessie to become my wife. (unfortunately, this phrase is of no help to you guys:icon_cheesygrin:)

Xiexie ni wo de hao pengyou = Thank you my good friend.

Quick question, if you actually wrote some of these phrases in a private email would they be able to understand /read them or do the girls only understand Chinese characters? I know Japanese understand western characters but not too sure if they are commonly used in china.

Dialect or not I hope she never looses her accent speaking English, I'd be a liar if i didn't admit its a total turn on ! That and her laugh, she has the funniest cute laugh..ok..i'll stop now...

Irish Now I'm laughing. I think the same thing about Song. She has a great laugh. Cute and fitting. And her accent in english just makes me laugh and she knows it. We do english lessons over the phone. She says the sentence and I repeat it. She wants to hear how I say it. I told her she'll be talking like a New Yorker soon. :s

FYI when I use this translator (when getting stuck with understanding something) standardmandarin.com/basicmandarin they have mostly sentences and you can't just get the word you need but what they have she says very good. But when I use MDBG to pull a word up she says no good they are wrong? The word is right the definition is right but the dialect isn't. She says they say it wrong?

I always have on my mind this nice sentence... :D

I looked one time for a nice sentence to say to a lady...

"Wo yao ni"...
I thought it was meant to say "I love you" or "I want to be with you"...
No way..

It is :
"I want you".... :D
It is also related to sex and to affirm "male's characters" on women, meaning they want that woman and nobody else..
so it is also good but beware if you want to give it a try.... :D

This is a good thread, and could end up being a monster thread too. hahaha!!

What it needs is one of you Mods or the tech guy to correlate all of the posts relevant content onto a single page for easy reference.  (Something like that used for the ladies profile numbers.) That's if any have the time to do it??  It's either that, or most of these contents will never see the light of day again, especially as the page numbers go up and up. (Shame to waste them all)....hahaha!!

This another page I like to use...although it does not have Happy Birthday on it.  There is a request form there, and if you ask, the person will post it on the page.  I have done this in the past.

Greetings all,
I think this is right if not please correct...
Ni hao mei li nv peng you = Hello beautiful girlfriend

Nan peng you = boyfriend
Nv peng you = girlfriend

Great thread guys love it,  also while we are on this thought how about a thread for nice romantic chinese songs.  I searched utube last night and found a couple that were really nice.  Even though the words are in chinese ( or maybe another asian language depending on teh song) it might be nice to hve some nice romantic music to help us along.

Here are the ones I found  .....
1 Ci she pen by Kelly Chen, not sure if its mandarin cantonese or other but it has the ktv subtitles with it in pinyin and chinese characrers.
2 I love you  (wo ai ni) by S.H.E.  wonderful song  really touching

3 South of the clouds  not sure the artist but she sure is pretty

ANyway just a thought for another usefull thread in our quest for love.

Regards,

Brian Mc

Ps  with the Kelly Chen song that has the KTV subtitles it may help some of us more linguistically challenged members to get the pronunciations right if we can see the chinese character and the pinyin and here the sound also.

here goes, I do not know if I spelled the pinyin right,,...
(some of this may be the dialect of the city my wife lives in / Wuhan)

Ni eurla ma? = are you hungry?

Ni quoi-la ma? = are you happy

Wo lay-la. =  I'm tired.

Ni lay-la ma? = are you tired?

chi chi ni = thank you

fhaze zhong hao = very good

tcee-tcee = (name of the male parts...., lol) :icon_eek:  (slang ???)

e tien-tien = a little/ small   (no, do not add this with the one above! and NO, she did not say this to me, ha ha)  so behave! :icon_cheesygrin:

pizdsa = nose

sway paa = mouth

toe faa = hair

sooooo = hand

chaow = feet (do not pronounce the word as "chow" , more like when you hurt yourself you say "aow", just add the CH sound in front.)

r-toe = ear

yang ting = eye(s)

shingsan = heart

hen how =  I'm good ( I'm fine )

if I made any mistakes please correct me,

Brian, if you like to hear nice Chinese music I would suggest "the peacock dance" song , and the " 1000 hands" I think that is what it is called, perhaps some of the other members know this better, the song and show made by the 10 mute women of China, very beautiful and nice in my opinion.

Arnold, no idea what your characters mean....I typed them into my translation program and got this: "How do??Huan??key??"

lol

The Google translation is usually pretty good depending on the Chinese you translate. Simple stuff, it's usually perfect. The longer the sentences you translate, the more mixed up it gets.

Here's a link to it if you or anyone else doesn't know about it.

Hi Arnold, Have you got your translation for this yet?
I put it through a couple of translation sites and it came back the same on both, It could not seem to recognize some of the characters but this was the replies i got, How do??Huan??key??. Seems pretty random to me, but it may mean something to you, maybe you can work it out with the context of the letter she wrote to you. :))
You know, i swear that post was not there before i added to it... It looks like Joshua got there before me...! Oh well.  :icon_cheesygrin:
