Maybe not as QQ was developed by Tencent and is owned by a Chinese businessman/techno nerd from Shenzhen I think. So going by the brief article (too lazy to read the full story) if they want to keep the profits in China then QQ maybe OK.  Just shows that the Chinese Government at least tries to be the complete opposite of the Australian government and try to keep the profits in country. But all in all it is just another reason to get Xia to Australia as quickly as possible so I can talk to her face to face and not rely on Skype QQ or any other VoIP system.

I just installed the new QQ interface on an old XP laptop I have and I've not been able to find video chat or VoIP on it yet. Could they have removed it?

Do you see the tool bar on the top of the QQ page afte you are on QQr? the first one is video, the second is phone. I hope you couild use QQ well.

Illegal .... dont think so.,

QQ is Chinas 2:nd largest .com company and QQ is , believe it or not. The worlds largest Social IM community with somewhere up to 4-500 million users. Thats more then MSN or Yahoo for instance.
China Unicom and China Mobile both offers business and professional VOIP solutions throughout China.

The technology itself will hardly be banned in China, however western companies aiming at "stealing" marketshares from national Chinese service providers.... yes for sure, they might very well be both banned and illegalized if they pose an economic threat to the Chinese operators.
