Countries OK to stopover with K-1 visa
« on: February 26, 2014, 11:19:56 pm »
Can someone provide a list of countries where it will be OK for Lisa and Amy to fly through when coming to America with their K-1/K-2 visa?

I understand some countries need a transit visa, and some don't.  We want to explore all our options before making a decision on which flight to take.

The two best flight itineraries I've seen stop over in Seoul or Toronto.  I think they are both OK.

For the China Transit Program they do have these stipulations:

They are from China and leave from one of the following cities (as last point of embarkation) before arriving in Canada:
◦Guangzhou
◦Shanghai
◦Hong Kong
◦Manila
◦Taipei
.Beijing

Now they did change it I believe in 2013 to these requirements so check carefully.
Maybe Martin can check for you as he lives in Canada and knows?

From Korea you don't need one if landing in Philly or other USA destinations.

There is a consulate for Canada in Guangzhou by the China Hotel

Suite 801, China Hotel Office Tower
 Liu Hua Lu
 Guangzhou

Telephone: (86-20) 8611-6100

There is the phone number so maybe you could call to get info. I am sure they will answer your questions.

On a K-1 Visa 14 years ago went from Hong Kong > Los Angeles (customs ) > Denver.  Never set foot in another country. Later made the same trip From Shanghai to Los Angeles.  And Beijing to San Fran. Never had to enter another country.

Last year when I wanted to send Fiona to Guangzhou through Canada we were told by United Airlines she needed a transit visa. That was a panic because we had already booked the flight and were only told about the transit visa during check in at Denver International.  And Fiona has a US green Card. So we had to re-ticket and went through Japan instead.

She has traveled twice through Japan without a Transit Visa.  Katie  too.

When we come to your wedding we will fly into JFK and drive down to your place.  I figured 2 hours driving. Is it more like 3.5 hours?

Gerry, it's nearer to 3 hours, depending on traffic.  If you can come into Philly, It's an hour, give or take, depending on traffic.  And I can come and get you guys at Philly if you need me to.

No need. We will stay in New York for a few days.  NYC is on the bucket list for all Asians. If we are in that part of the country I might as well give her the full tour.  Just give me an address and will let my gps do the rest.

New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas. If they don't go to those places then the people back home will say they really haven't been to America. lol.
